The world premiere of the Russian film "Sobibor" has taken place in Warsaw

According to Konstantin Khabensky, what happened in Sobibor is a history of a global scale.

- If for some reasons we suddenly want to pretend that this did not take place, or just forget, then similar stories will instantly appear anywhere in the world,- he noted, speaking before the film screening.

Guests invited to the event in the Warsaw Drama Theater met the end credits with applause.

- This film is tough, - said after the premiere the Israeli Ambassador to Poland, Anna Azari.

In his turn, the Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev called the film strong. Answering the question about whether this picture will affect the viewer, Andreev pointed out that everything "depends on how much the person is receptive, prepared and educated, how well he knows history".

- It seems to me that the film makes a strong impression,- he concluded.

The film "Sobibor" tells us about a revolt of prisoners in the concentration camp of the same name, located in the territory of occupied Poland, and about the heroic deed of the Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky (1909-1990), who raised the rebellion there. The film shows the events that preceded the rebellion of the prisoners, and the revolt itself. The script of the film was written by the Adviser to the Chairman of the RMHS Andrey Nazarov.

The main role of Alexander Pechersky is performed by the film's director Konstantin Khabensky. His hero quickly realizes that the only way to avoid a true death is to escape. But after the unsuccessful attempt of a small group of prisoners, the camp commandant announced the decision to execute every tenth prisoner for every fugitive. Then Pechersky begins to develop a plan for the escape of all slaves.

The Pechersky’s rebellion was the first during the Second World War to be a successful revolt and the only one so massive in terms of the number of participants. It was possible to escape almost all 300 prisoners who put their lives on the line.

In Poland this film will be released on wide screens on May 11. It will appear in the Russian film distribution on May 3.
