Presentation of a new Russian film "Sobibor" was held in Vienna

A fragment of the film "Sobibor" by Konstantin Khabensky about the only successful revolt of the death camp prisoners during the World War II was shown at the Sobibor symposium in the Austrian capital Vienna. The event was organized by the Institute of Education of the Austrian Freedom Party, the Alexander Pechersky's Foundation, the Russian Military Historical Society, and the Russian Historical Society.

The event was attended by the Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lubinsky, the chairman of the Fatherland History Foundation Konstantin Mogilevsky, the former Israeli Knesset member Michael Kleiner, the great-granddaughter of the organizer of the uprising, the Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky, Alina Popova and others.

Speaking at the symposium, Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lubinsky has pointed to the inadmissibility of falsifying the historical truth about the events of World War II, noting that Austria is a positive example for many European countries.

"The appearance of the film Sobibor is the next big and very important step in preserving the historical truth, another evidence of the terrible crimes of Hitler's Germany and the heroic act of Alexander Pechersky and many other prisoners whose names are not always known to us," said the Russian Ambassador, adding , that the screening of the film in Vienna is scheduled for May 8.

Earlier it was reported that the fragment of a picture was watched by the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the prime minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu. They have got acquainted with fragments from the movie within the commemorative events dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade.

The author of the idea of the film Sobibor is the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society Vladimir Medinsky, the director and performer of the main role is Konstantin Khabensky, starring Christopher Lambert, Maria Kozhevnikova, Felice Yankell, Dainius Kazlauskas and others. The film is created with the active support of the Russian Military Historical Society.

"We are grateful to our Austrian partners for their respectful attitude to the memory of Soviet soldiers who died on this earth for the sake of the Great Victory," said Dmitry Lyubinsky.

The international symposium Sobibor is a vivid example of fruitful Russian-Austrian cooperation, which is evidence of objective history perception by the Austrian authorities.

June 22, 2017 in Vienna, the Russian Military History Society has solemnly opened a memorable obelisk to Soviet soldiers who died in this city during the Second World War. Local authorities have shown due respect for this event and not only have agreed on all the necessary documents for installation of the memorial, but also were directly involved in its creation.
