Memory of the World War I heroes was paid tribute in Russia and abroad

On the anniversary of Russia's accession to World War I, actions of memory took place in a number of regions of Russia, as well as in Poland and France.

In Russia, unfortunately, the World War I was largely forgotten, and for the new generations of Russians - unknown. The revolution, the civil war, and then the World War II pushed this war into the background of Russian history.

It was regrettable as it gave heroes who fought for the glory of Russian weapons and sacrificed their lives for "Faith, Tsar and Fatherland".

Russia's participation in the World War I is one of the important pages of military history, which has not received sufficient coverage. Unfortunately, after October 1917, the World War I was portrayed as imperialistic, far from protecting the Fatherland and the interests of the people. Russia, which invested so much energy in the struggle on the fronts and suffered enormous losses, can not forget the memory of its best sons, who have laid their heads on the battlefields. Over 885,000 soldiers gave their lives for the the Fatherland.

In memory of this, in 2013 by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin was established a memorable date in the Russian Federation: August 1 is the Day of Remembrance of Russian soldiers who died in the World War I of 1914-1918. On this day in 1914 Germany declared war on Russia and the Russian Empire entered the World War I.

104 years later, in many cities of Russia and abroad the memory of Russian soldiers - the heroes of the World War I is honored.

In France, at the memorial cemetery of soldiers of the Russian expeditionary Force in the province of Champagne (St.Hilaire le Grand), representatives of French historians-enthusiasts of the association "NaZAPAD" led by Thomas Berthaut laid flowers. The head of the association Fabrice Oulevey noted that "the merits and feat of Russian soldiers in the liberation of France during the World War I are worthy so that we, the descendants of the liberated, preserve the historical memory and give it to our children. The association "NaZAPAD" actively cooperates with the Russian Military Historical Society (the RMHS). Its representatives participate in the marches of memory in commune Courcy in honor of the liberation of the city by parts of the Russian expeditionary corps, organize thematic exhibitions at the Russian Embassy in France and participate in historical festivals on the territory of Russia.

Activists of the commonwealth "KURSK" laid flowers on the territory of the Republic of Poland to the monument-mausoleum of Russian soldiers who died in the war of 1914-1918. in the city of Poznan, and the fraternal grave of soldiers of the Russian army during the World War I in Mragowo (Warmia-Mazury Province). Its head Jerzy Tyc noted the importance of preserving memory: "Let our memory never erase the feat of the Russian people, committed by them in the World War I".

The commonwealth "KURSK" actively opposes the rewriting and distortion of history, rescues from destruction and destroying relics and monuments, burial places associated with various military events, searches for the burial places of soldiers who died in Poland during the military activities in the last century. The commonwealth cooperates with public and patriotic organizations of Russia, incl. RMHS.

On the anniversary of Russia's accession to the First World War, the Russian Historical Society and the Russian Military Historical Society held an International Memory Action.

In the morning August 1, at the Memorial and Park Complex of Heroes of the First World War the Chairman of the Russian Historical Society Sergei Naryshkin and the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Russiam Military Historical Society Vladimir Medinsky laid flowers to the obelisk "To the Fallen in the World War of 1914-1918" and the grave of the Supreme Commander of all land and sea forces of the Russian Empire – the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich (junior), whose remains rest in the chapel of the Transfiguration of the Savior on the Bratskoye military cemetery in Moscow.

The first national monument to the heroes and victims of the First World War was opened by the RMHS in Moscow on Poklonnaya Hill on August 1, 2014 - the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the World War I. Sculptor is people's artist of Russia Andrei Kovalchuk. The opening ceremony of the monument was attended by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

In the course of the day, flowers were also laid at the foot of the monument to the Heroes of the First World War (on Poklonnaya Hill): Deputy Assistant Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexander Kirilin, Director of the State Historical Museum Alexei Levykin, Executive Director of the History of the Fatherland Foundation Konstantin Mogilevsky, Director of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Petrov, Director of the Victory Museum Alexander Shkolnik, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the RMHS Vladimir Churov, as well as People's Artists of Russia: Andrey Kovalchuk, Vasily Nesterenko and Salavat Shcherbakov.
