The Russian Military Historical Society: Polish authorities must fight with vandals, not with the fallen

It is now public knowledge that the Polish authorities plan to exhume the remains of Soviet soldiers buried in the town of Starachowice (Świętokrzyskie voivodship) and replace them to the military cemetery in Kielce. Scientific director of the Russian Military Historical Society Mikhail Myagkov commented on this information:

- This is unacceptable, but not only because this is a flagrant violation of international agreements. This is, in fact, a desecration of the memory of Soviet soldiers and commanders who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Poland from the fascist invaders in 1945.

While deliberately ignoring this fact, today Polish elites are trying to sterilize the historical memory of their people, so that nothing good about the Russians could be born in the minds of the Poles. Otherwise, how can the citizens of Poland tolerate dissonance: Soviet soldiers liberated their native land, and now they are being exploited by NATO soldiers?

Polish elites, despite the opinions of their own citizens, pursue its openly Russophobic policy to please their overseas partners. They look at Russia through the crosshairs and are ready to go for anything, not even disdaining the outrage to the memory of the fallen.

The argument about protecting the graves of Soviet soldiers from vandals is the slyness of Polish politicians. In all civilized countries, the state, in the person of law enforcement bodies, is struggling with vandals, not with fallen and not with monuments.

Europe bashfully shuts its eyes to the systematic violation of international agreements by Poland, since it contributes to the general anti-Russian rhetoric, the escalation of tension in relations between our countries.

Russia, for its part, strictly adheres to the arrangements, takes care of the Polish graves and will always take care, in spite of everything. For example, in Katyn (Smolensk Region), literally in the coming weeks, the general improvement will be completed and a new museum and exhibition center will be opened. The history of Soviet- Polish and Russian-Polish relations will be presented here in a comprehensive and truthful manner.

Working a lot on our common history, we constantly cooperate with various Polish activists and organizations. Moreover, we hope that in Poland there are voices not only of engaged politicians, but also of public figures - those numerous representatives of the Polish people who remember and appreciate the contribution of Soviet soldiers and commanders in liberating the country from the terrible fascist oppression. They know and remember: if it were not for the Red Army, modern Poles would not have a sovereign state, there would not even be an opportunity to speak their native language.

We appeal to the Polish authorities: before taking decisions dictated by someone, think that those fallen in this land are those to whom you owe your freedom, statehood, your life!
