Yesterday in the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus scientists from the Institute of History of the Belarus National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences held a presentation of the book "Country on Fire" (thematic essays and collections of documents combined into three volumes (“1941, Country on Fire”; “1942 -1943, Crucial Moment”; and “1944-1945, Liberation”).
These publications were prepared by leading military historians on the basis of the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of History of the Belarus National Academy of Sciences within the framework of the "Country on Fire" international project. It was originally aimed in order to examine comprehensively and objectively the main pages of the history of the Soviet people's struggle against the Nazi invasion in 1941 - 1945. The composition of the editorial board of the multi-volume publication includes V.V. Danilovich, A.A. Kovalenya, O.A.Rzheshevsky, and A.O. Chubarian.
The fundamental work "The Country on Fire," published with the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research in the publishing house "Abris-Olma", won the national prize of Russia "Best Books and Publishers of the Year". Scientific advisors from the Russian military historical society actively participated in the creation of the book.
- “The publication of these books is an important event in the scientific life of our countries. It is symbolic that the presentation of the publication took place on the eve of the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, which will be widely celebrated on July 3. Another important date is honored here is the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus of the Nazi invaders,” said Mikhail Myagkov, the scientific director of the Russian military historical society, head of the Center “History of Wars and Geopolitics” based on the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He noted that due to the cooperation of historians from Russia and Belarus, the publication comprehensively describes the events of war years. All the participants of the presentation agreed that this fundamental scientific work is an important contribution towards the education of younger people of both countries.
- “All historians emphasized that the main idea of such books is to prevent the revival of Nazism on our planet. It is important to remember the cruel lessons of history. During the Great Patriotic War, Belarus lost up to one-third of its population. We fought together, together we worked to Victory! Today our duty is to protect our common history from numerous attacks, attempts to mythologize and revise the results of the Great Patriotic War and the liberation mission of the Red Army,” Mikhail Myagkov noted.
In the Republic of Belarus the collection was presented by Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus - Alexander Kovalenya; Scientific Director of the Russian military historical society, Head of the History Center of the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences - Mikhail Myagkov, and many others.
