The Russian community of historians published a declaration on the inadmissibility of revisionism in regard to the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The document was adopted at the Scientific and Practical Conference "1943. From Kursk to the Dnieper, organized by the Russian Military Historical Society in the Victory Museum. The event is timed to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Kursk.
The conference was attended by leading Russian historians. Greeting to the delegates sent the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society (RMHS) Vladimir Medinsky.
“Over time, the events of the fiery year of 1943 have become even more important both for the history of our country and for the history of all mankind. In this year, the united nations managed to persuade the "scales" in favor of a peaceful and free future for all the inhabitants of the Earth. It is needless to remind those present that the peoples of the Soviet Union made a decisive contribution to this radical change, as well as to the final victory over fascism. I will especially emphasize that what has been said does not in any way diminish the role of our allies, participants in the Resistance movement and anti-fascists around the world. But it remains a fact that the greatest damage was inflicted on the Soviet-German front of Nazism” Vladimir Medinsky said.
“Two days later, on August 23 we will celebrate 75 years of the victory of the Soviet troops in the Battle of Kursk. Victory, which initiated the liberation of Kharkov, and after that - all of the Ukraine. The memory of this battle in its scale unique and fierce, during which the last strategic offensive of the Wehrmacht on the Soviet-German front was halted, must be carefully preserved and transferred from generation to generation,” the RMHS Chairman emphasized.
In the course of the meeting the scientists stated the world historical significance of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Representatives of the historical community noted the need to counteract falsification and distortion the history leading to the "historical rehabilitation" of the political regimes of the states - Hitlerite satellites, as well as collaborators in the countries occupied by the Nazis. The conference participants consider it unacceptable to "revise" the history of World War II, aimed at reconsidering its geopolitical results, undermining the foreign policy positions of the Russian Federation as the legal successor of the USSR.
“Among the inadequate historical realities, absolutely unfounded from the scientific point of view, it is necessary to include statements disseminated in the electronic media attempt to link the collapse of the German Operation “Citadel” with the landing of the Anglo-American Allied forces in Sicily. The facts show that it was not a landing in Italy at all, and the transfer of Soviet troops to a counteroffensive on July 12, 1943, caused Hitler to stop Operation “Citadel”, which by that time had already failed due to the fortitude and military skill of the Soviet troops,” said the scientific director of the RMHS Mikhail Myagkov.
The scientist said that the common task of all representatives of the professional community of historians is an unbiased, honest study of the period 1941-1945, and its objective coverage in the media.
“This is our duty to the memory of the heroes of the Battle of Kursk - those who fought at Prokhorovka and Soborovskoe field, liberated Orel, Belgorod and Kharkov, expelled the fascists from Ukraine and drove the offensive to Berlin - the road to the Great Victory,” said Mikhail Myagkov.
