On June 22, memorial events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow took place across the country and abroad. The most large-scale events were the following: "Candle of Memory" and "Verification of the Fallen", supported by 83 regional representative offices of the Russian Military Historical Society (RMHS). In addition, the RMHS activists took part in the charity action "Red Carnation".
In addition to federal all-Russian events, local events were organized in many regions.
In particular, in Vyazma (Smolensk region), the Russian Military Historical Society organized mourning events in the places of mass burials of the German transit camp’s victims "Dulag-184". In order to honor the memory of 70,000 camp's prisoners, who died in the camp during the war, their relatives from 11 regions of Russia and the Republic of Belarus came together.
In Tambov and Ivanovo regions memorials on military burial grounds were opened with the assistance of the RMHS. The events were attended by the regional government’s representatives. Also, a commemorative sign was opened in the Dukhovschinsky district of the Smolensk region.
During the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, the remains of Defenders of the Motherland, raised during the exploratory expeditions, were finally buried. Ceremonies with military honors were held in Moscow, Vologda, Voronezh, and St. Petersburg.
Museum exhibitions and military-historical reconstructions took place in Kaliningrad, Kostroma, Murmansk, and Brest regions.
Memorable events were held outside of Russia too. With the support of the RMHS representatives in the United States of America, memorial events have been organized in Washington. They were attended by the employees of the Embassies of Russia, Armenia, and Belarus, as well as other members of the Russian-speaking community.
