International Scientific and Practical conference “1943. From Kursk to the Dnieper”

August 21, 2018 at 11.00 The Russian Military Historical Society and the Victory Museum hold the International Scientific and Practical Conference "1943. From Kursk to the Dnieper".

August 23, 2018, in Russia we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of one of the decisive battles of the Great Patriotic War - the Battle of Kursk. The Battle of Kursk and the battle for the Dnieper marked the end of a radical turn in the course of the Second World War. The work of the conference is aimed at presenting the results of modern research and discussing military-strategic, geopolitical, spiritual-moral and other aspects of the events of those heroic days. It is extremely important for the organizers to work on preservation the historical memory of the exploits of the Soviet Soldier-Winners.

The welcome speech of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society (RMHS) and the Organizing Committee for the preparation and celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Nazi troops defeat by the Soviet troops in the Battle of Kursk - Vladimir Medinsky, will be read before the conference.

The event will be opened by the scientific director of the RMHS Mikhail Myagkov and the director of the Victory Museum Alexander Shkolnik.

Leading scientists-researchers of the Great Patriotic War, experts and specialists will make reports. The plenary session and the work of the two sections are planned, during which the coverage of the problem will be received in the following areas:

  • The Battle of Kursk (military art, conduct of combat operations, its all-round support, commanders, heroes)
  • Politics, economics and ideology of the Soviet state in 1943 (domestic and foreign policy, economy, state ideology);
  • Offensive operations of Soviet troops in the second half of 1943;
  • The Battle of Kursk in historical memory (the significance of the Battle of Kursk in patriotic upbringing in our days, counteraction of falsification and distortion of the history about the Battle of Kursk and the battle for the Dnieper);
  • The Soviet offensive in the autumn of 1943 and the crossing of the Dnieper.

At the end of the conference its participants will adopt the final resolution.

What pages from the history of the Battle of Kursk are particularly relevant today? How did events develop in other theaters of military operations? What is the significance of our time in the memory of the events on the Kursk Bulge and in the battle for the Dnieper for the upbringing of the younger generation?

These and other questions will be answered by historians, military theoreticians and museum specialists.

Reports of the conference participants are planned to be published (after passing the editorial board) in the form of articles in the collection “1943. From Kursk to the Dnieper”.

The start of the Conference is on August 21, 2018 at 11.00 in the Victory Museum at the address: Moscow, Pobedy Square, 3.
