The large-scale military-historical festival "Russian Legion of Honor" with the support of the Russian Military Historical Society was held on the territory of the museum-reserve "Polotnyany Zavod" in the Kaluga region.
The festival is dedicated to the events of the First World War and presented combat episodes of the history of the Russian Expeditionary Force and the Legion of Honor. The event was attended by historical clubs from different regions of Russia and Belarus.
The most massive and entertaining episodes of the festival were the parade of the Russian Expeditionary Force before being sent to France and the reconstruction of two battles of the First World War. About 300 people took part in the historical productions. The reconstructors presented different kinds of troops of the two opposing sides.
The first reconstruction, which took place on the banks of the Sukhodrev River, was devoted to the events of 1915 on the Eastern Front. The second - recreated an episode of military events in 1918 on the Western Front, in France. During the festival, infantry and cavalrymen demonstrated their martial skills, guns, also were involved machine guns and armored vehicles of the early twentieth century.
The festival was attended by the military attache of the French Embassy in Russia. In his welcoming speech, he highly appreciated the military-historical and cultural ties of our peoples.
The Russian Military Historical Society (RMHS) makes a significant contribution to the development of Russian-French cooperation. Only in the last three years in France were erected 6 monuments dedicated to the events of the First World War, regular commemorative events are held. In addition, with the support of the RMHS, an international search expedition "Russian Expeditionary Force. Courcy" took place. In the near future on the territory of France there will be a monument to soldiers of the Russian Expeditionary Force. Also, the scientific work on the study and popularization of the historical legacy of the First World War is constantly conducted.
