Festival of military reconstruction held in Severodvinsk

During the celebration of Navy Day in Severodvinsk, with the support of the Russian Military Historical Society, the reenactment festival "Severodvinsky Troopers" was held. One of the brightest moments of the holiday was the reenactment of the Allied landing in Normandy, known as “Overlord” operation.

Participants of three dozen military-historical clubs from all over Russia and the patriotic associations in Severodvinsk recreated several fighting episodes of that major battle: the capture of a prisoner by the French partisans, the artillery preparation for the landing, and the naval landing itself, as well as the taking of fascist lines.

The sounds of bagpipes were heard over the "battlefield" - like it was in Normandy. The role of the musician, who was heading into the attack in 1944, was taken over by the head of the St. Petersburg Pipers Association Vladimir Molodtsov.

Thousands of spectators not only saw a large-scale reconstruction of the war, but also heard detailed information about this event. Archangelsk historian Mikhail Kopitsa commented on the whole course of the event, and also told many interesting facts about the preparations for “Overlord” operation, its conduct and its significance for the course of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War.

The Russian Military Historical society supports many thematic festivals, as they are an important element in the awakening of public interest in the country's history, pride in the deeds of ancestors. In 2017, with the assistance of the RMHS, 16 events took place, in which took part over 2000 representatives of clubs for military historical reconstruction and 300,000 spectators from Russia and abroad. Among them, the largest annual Russian festivals – “Borodino's Day” in the Moscow Region, “Siberian Fire” in the Novosibirsk Region, “Russian Troy” in Sevastopol, and the “Live Chess” tournament in Borodino.
